Glass is a very unique medium to use in art, half solid and half liquid, sometimes transparent, sometimes opaque, strong yet fragile, clear or colored. This potential for beauty and paradox  have made it a fascination throughout history for both artists and collectors alike.
From towering cathedral windows to delicate hand blown ornaments, it comes in many guises. Once the preserve of the rich and the elite, it is a material that is increasingly accessible to the masses. Using stained glass in your home can create an unusual and attractive, dynamic quality to your interior decor. It is something which many people may not be bold enough to use. But if you are adventurous it can really create an element of light and color that few other homes posess.

Overview:

A Glass Mosaic, is a carefully crafted design assembled from hundreds of pieces of hand cut colored glasse. Firstly a full sheet of stainedglass is taken and carefully scored with straight lines, crossing over at right angles. This is done using a special diamond tipped cutter or wheel cutter. From here it is carefully snapped along the scorelines so that hundreds of  tiny colored tiles are created. Of course you can always simply buy stained glass mosaic pieces pre cut, as an easy alternative.

As well as square colored  tiles, random shapes can also be cut using special  'nippers' which work like pliers to snip off curved and random shaped pieces. All the elements are carefully layed out into either a geometrical pattern or in the shape of the chosen image and then affixed to a clear glass disc. Once dry, the work is then surrounded by a stone effect medium and finally the finished piece can be framed using a picture frame. Framing the piece will both protect and enhance the finished appearance.
This technique lends itself to many different situations, ranging from decorative objects, table tops, windows as well as interior decoration and design.
